My name is Emerson Kirby.
I am a Durham native and a recent graduate of Duke University where I studied Public Policy and Computer Science. For the past year, I’ve worked as the 3rd Vice-Chair of the Durham County Democratic Party. But my political journey began long before my current role with the Durham County Dems.
In high school, I was actively involved with Kids Voting Durham and the Durham Participatory Budgeting Initiative. I also had the opportunity to speak at a few Durham City Council meetings. Now that I’ve graduated from college, I’m eager to deepen my involvement with the Democratic Party, both in and outside of Durham, and continue advocating for policies that benefit our community.
As a recent college graduate, I represent a segment of people who are just starting out. We’re concerned about the cost of everyday items and housing, and we’re uncertain if Social Security will even be there for us when we need it. We need representatives at the DNC who understand these issues and are committed to supporting all our Democratic candidates.
In 2004, when I was only two years old, I attended my first DNC in Boston with my mom and grandma. Since then, I’ve continued to be politically active and have attended almost every DNC. This year, I have my first opportunity to actually participate as a delegate. Being a delegate will allow me to bring the perspectives of young people of color to the forefront and contribute to shaping a more inclusive and equitable future for our party and our country.

2.05 DUTIES OF COUNTY OFFICERS
Third Vice Chair
The duties of the county third vice chair shall be such as may be assigned by the county chair and shall include the following:
I have years of experience working with communications and messaging, especially in creating content for social media. I'm skilled with using Canva and Final Cut Pro, and I currently use these skills to enhance how we talk about our policy issues and political activities.
Simply put...I ran for third vice-chair because I believe that we can build a better world.
When we focus on providing opportunities for people, we can build a world with less poverty and less crime. When we elect people who care about others, then we will have laws that treat people with dignity and respect. And when we start to believe that we can change the world, we change the world.
Too many people have made sacrifices for me to sit on the sidelines of life. I have skills and talents that I can use to do my part. So, when I look in the mirror and see my reflection, there's a certain set of values that I want to see in the person looking back at me. I want to know that I am building a better future and a better world for everyone.
If you're attending the convention in person, please don't forget to take a look at my flyers that also have information on them and are sometimes easier to read than the tiny words on our cell phones.
Also look for me in Position 8 on the list of candidates running as At-Large Delegates for the 2024 Democratic National Convention.
I ask that you consider voting for me. I have actively supported Democrats before I was even eligible to vote, and I will always continue to do so. Thanks.
I'd love to hear from you.
